Here you are some information about waterways.

We start with some vocabulary

Waterfall: cascada

Do you know much about canal locks?

A lock canal used to raise or lower the water level, so two bodies of water are at the same level and boats can pass.


Do you know much about movable bridges?

A bascule bridge is a moveable bridge with a counterweight that continuously balances a span, or "leaf," throughout its upward swing to provide clearance for boat traffic. It may be single or double leafed.

                          

Tower Bridge (London)

This neo-Gothic bascule bridge, built in 1886-1894 by Horace Jones (1819-1887) and John Wolfe-Barry (1836-1918), is one of the most iconic symbols of London.


A swing bridge is a movable bridge. Its primary structural support is a vertical locating pin and support ring,  about which the turning span can then pivot horizontally.

A tilt bridge is a type of moveable bridge which rotates about fixed endpoints .

                                                     

Gateshead Milennium Bridge

The Rolling Bridge is a type of curling movable bridge completed in 2004.

At first balance it's just a simple wood and steel walkway on one of the channels to the north of Paddington. But it is probably the most original London Bridge.The Rolling bridge is a unique design by Thomas Heatherwick. When activate it, this simple footbridge transforms itself, like a snake, into a perfect octagon -- rather resembling a hamster wheel. Operates every Friday at 12:00 hrs.
